I've asked around, and everyone is pushing an $80 router. Is there a cheaper one on the market that works well for its value? I don't require super-fast connections or anyrthing. I'd like to pay $40 or less if possible.

(Brand and model number would be appreciated!!)

I bought a router a couple of months ago. I asked the advice of several of my friends who are knowledgeable about computer equipment.

The recommendation I got most often was the Linksys WRT54G. This model is on sale at several locations for $49.99 (but I have seen it for $60+).

Like you, however, I was watching cost. I did not have very much to spend. I found a Belkin F5DF7230-4. It sells $39.99. (I bought mine at Home Depot, but I have seen it on the Dell web-site, and in other stores for about the same price.)

The Belkin I bought works great! I have a 2-story house, and the router is upstairs in the corner of a bedroom. I get a very good signal all over the house, and even outside on the porch.

Also, about the same time I bought my router, a friend asked my wife to come over and help them install a Linksys router they had bought. The Linksys router was very difficult to install, but our Belkin was no problem at all! (The Linksys help line provided little, if any, help)

I highly recommend the Belkin!

Try to buy a netgear router. I have one and i could connect from my friend's house who lives up the street. They have some for like $45. It is model WGR614. Try to get one like 75. They last for a long time. Don't buy a linksys. They always burnout and you will have to get a new one. Hope that helps.

I am a Linksys person myself, it is a division of Cisco and easy to set up.

i'm afraid this may well be somewhat technical, yet i'm going to do my ultimate: you do not say what fashions your router & computing gadget are - that would help! it somewhat is plausible that they are the two working, yet not making use of an identical on the spot time-honored. The computing gadget (if some years old) might help in undemanding terms '802.11B' mutually as the router (& wanadoo adapter) may well be making use of '802.11G'. verify the router's settings because it would desire to have the means to be set to apply the two in undemanding terms 'G' or the two 'B' & 'G' mutually if it somewhat is somewhat new. there is likewise '802.11N' that's amazingly new. you have not pronounced in spite of the fact that if the adapter is working with the computing gadget or yet another laptop? If it works interior the computing gadget, then learn the homes of its settings with those of your integrated on the spot adapter. Is there a on the spot turn on the case of the computing gadget? on occasion it somewhat is an identical swap for the two BluTooth & WiFi - verify that it somewhat is on! The 'Sony Vaio VGN-SZ2XP' particularly has one like this. What I pronounced approximately 802.11 standards additionally applies to encryption standards. there is WPA (greater moderen, greater guard) & WEP (older) - be sure that your Sony helps the WPA time-honored in the adventure that your router is making use of it.
