The argument for being pro-life isn't really a conservative one, it's an ethical one. If society starts to define human life based on functionality, ie. a fetus can't live independently therefor it's not human, then the same argument can be extended to any other people who need temporary or even permanent assistance to survive. This includes large numbers of handicapped and elderly people.
This means that all human life should be equally protected regardless of whether it's existence is inconvenient or not. This view is as much classically liberal as it is conservative.
The current debate stems from a period in the sixties and seventies when passing social fads were scrambled with basic political and social values. The result is that there are self described liberals claiming that label for viewpoints that no liberal prior to that period would have supported.
The arguments for classing fetuses as not human is based more on expediency than on social or ethical reasoning or basic biology. If a fetus is human then its presence may be inconvenient for the parents, particularly the mother. If it's not human then it can be disposed of without further consideration.
The same procedure of classifying certain groups as 'not people' for reasons of expediency is not new. Look at Nazi treatment of Jews or the status of slaves in the antebellum South as just two more recent examples.
The real question should be; how can anyone who claims to be a liberal be pro-abortion. (I deliberately did not write pro-coice because that's the kind of Orwellian double-speak that people have always used to excuse atrocity, ie. "final solution")

I am not even close to being conservative and I am mostly pro-life. A life is a life- and a baby from conception is a life. I think that todays society is just depressing- everyone thinks that life is about them and that what they do doesn't have consequences on anyone else---if you can't take care of a baby then DON"T HAVE SEX simple as that. I am well aware that some people are raped and end up pregnant and some people can't carry a baby and then I can see having an abortion but that is not the cause of the majority of abortions. I know people that have had abortions and years later they are still devastated about it or can't conceive now and always wonder if the abortion had something to do with it...

Why do pro-choice people NEVER mention about how these poor would be mothers handle NOT RAISING their babies...

If you're someone who's lazy, then just take the first knee-jerk response you get here as gospel.

If you're willing to work a bit and actually think, then go look up the traditional definition of "conservative", and then reconsider your question.
