Well... if he is in love with you and you with him, implying you have been with each other a while, why is it he has just acquired a girlfriend and that she seems to have priority in several ways over you? That's a big question to answer in order to understand "what's up with that."

For instance, maybe you didn't want more of a formal relationship with him. So he was simply filling the need he has for a mate by wooing and having a girlfriend. But that's so obvious that you would certainly understand "what's up with that." So I'm guessing that's not it.

How old is he? Yeah, clearly he could be even well over 18 mightn't he? Then the obvious answer would be he either is using the girlfriend as a "beard" to keep other adults from thinking about why he spends so much time with you or he has gotten her because he simply likes a similarly aged girlfriend because of how much more he has in common with her. The first he would have explained to keep you from being angry but the second... how would he address that without you seeing lots of writing on the wall? So the second thought has a good chance of being right if he is significantly older than you (not just 24 or 44, but even 16-17yo boys could feel exactly like this: to him, you are kind of a child and he needs the more grown-up company). I'M not saying you're a child and he's not, I'm saying he could himself feel that way.

The next thought is that most men are parental. It's just that we get snapped up early by women who value that so the batch of single men your single friends will one day complain about are the ones that were selected out by women who value worthwhile men. Of course that batch leads to suffering and complaint. He could be that kind of boy/man and dote on your son because he would do so with the son of any girl he is close to emotionally. Yet he may not think of you as girlfriend material even then for a variety of reasons. Not least could be concern about just how gone the father actually is, in your heart. Or because he won't deal publicly with your age vs. his. Or, if the same age as you, it could be that he is with you mostly because of his parental love for children but you are not foremost in his mind as his sort of girlfriend.

And, though you may not want to hear this given the path you are on like it or not, he might simply not want to be with a girl who has the concerns and responsibilities of motherhood. He might want a fairly carefree girl, one who, for instance, might think herself smarter than the average bear and ready for sex because she is sure SHE would never get pregnant. Or at least carefree enough to bounce happily along in life, from pleasure to pleasure, without being too serious about anything. Something you likely cannot offer.

(Sigh) If so, get used to it... it will happen plenty, though less once you are 20-ish. Don't let it get you down. Just move forward and along the way enjoy what you can of what comes your way.

My sister-in-law had her first child at 14. She is now 24 and has 2 more by my brother-in-law. They are happy, but they have some real serious issues regarding her oldest son. You have so much you have to consider with finding a 'real' daddy for your son! Please take your time and get used to being a good Mom before you go out on a hubby hunt!

I wish you well!

it sounds to me, like you're confusing an affair with a relationship

if this guy has been with the same girlfriend for a long time, and bounces over to you occasionally, he is likely using you or on "the rebound"

take care of YOU and your child. there are a lot of other, very nice men out there who dont' cheat on their current girlfriends

i think of catching their mum and dad carry interior the provides is the main basic. it particularly is how we found out. yet, i might might desire to declare that did not do away with from the adventure. We nevertheless wrote Santa as quickly as we've been little or perhaps placed out cookies on occasion. If my son caught me, i may well be tempted to inform him Santa dropped the provides off and asked me to hold them in for him!

People are always nice to the children when they are trying to get close to the mother.
