When he said:

""I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country...corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed. I feel at this moment more anxiety for the safety of my country than ever before, even in the midst of war."

-President Abraham Lincoln

In more modern times, another Republican president said essentially the same thing - Eisenhower's parting shot against the 'Military Industrial Complex' in his farewell address in 1961

Lincoln was right, and things slid way down hill in the next few decades. But the most egregious corporate abuses were addressed in anti-trust statutes, labor statutes, and regulation in the early 20th century. Conservative and corporate types will forever rail against government mandates, regulations, and laws. But then they never cease to prove how necessary such things are.

Yes he was.
The quote couldn't be more prevalent today.
We have a two party system where neither party represent the people of this country due to complacency and total disregard and disrespect for one another.
Why is it OK to give massive subsidies to corporations that do not need them, huge federal contracts for unnecessary commodities, government programs with no oversight with tremendous waste and corruption.
When will enough be enough?
Why do so many condone so much waste yet fails and denies his brother man?
Why do you condone bailouts and handouts for the rich yet deny the poor?
Why do we spend so much for others infrastructure while ours crumble?
Hand outs to the pharmaceuticals while we cannot afford their products, which we paid to research.
Dear Congress, please, when will enough be enough?
Mr. President, when will enough be enough?

JFK referred to this as well. When JFK said it though, he meant the Rockefellers, JP Morgan family and others who control the Central Bank aka the Federal Reserve Bank.

You want the real enemies, these families along with Prescot Bush who loaned money to the Nazis through his bank in WW2 are the real enemies of freedom.

He was a wise president. Perhaps too much so for his own good. The only upside to the rise of capitalism and corporations in America is that it can only survive without the completion of free, slave labor in the South--thus it had to be abolished.

How long did you search to find that one? Going back 100 years to find support for your point is most impressive.
