I'm nearly 28 weeks pregnant, and baby has had a growth spurt and my belly has gotten really big in the last 3 weeks. Now im finding it hard to go to sleep at night. When i lay on my side, it feels like baby weighs down to that side and after a few mins i start getting pains in my stomach. Ive tried the pillow under the stomach thing and its not working, and i cant sleep on my back either as it leaves me breathless and dizzy......anyone have any suggestions of how to be comfortable...Thanks

Thanks to everyone with all your invaluable suggestions! I guess the main point everyone kept coming back to was the use of pillows. Last night i put loads of pillows all around me and inbetween my legs and had a much more comfortable sleep. Thanks to everyone!

I used pillows everywhere. I had one in between my legs, one behind my back, and three underneath my head. It is just one of those wonderful pregnant things.

I'm 38 weeks pregnant and don't get much sleep at all! One thing I did find helpful was going out to the couch. I found that the back support from the back of the couch while laying on my side was a huge help. Try that and putting the pillow under your belly. It's the only thing that feels comfortable to me at this point.

If someone out there has the magical answer PLEASE let us know!!! LOL!! I am 30 weeks and just when I find a position that seems to work . . . she grows again and I have to start searching for a new position. I use a body pillow, a memory foam pillow, a feather pillow (works best under my belly), a cotton pillow, and a neck roll pillow. For me it's like a puzzle. I have to see what pillows fit best in different spots! LOL!! My husband usually waits about 30 minutes or so before coming to bed just to make sure I am settled. ;)
My back and ribs were just aching in the middle of the night because she would settle high. I have been elevating my lower half for about 10-15 before bed. She seems to settle and I get a better nights sleep.
Good luck and start scheduling nap time to make up for lost sleep!

Oh, my , you can't get comfortable at all. the pillows under the tummy thing can work for some all right...I used to find that spending time in a swimming pools relieved the pressure for me....Ssometimes it helped the baby shift position, and I would get a few hours comfortable sleep that night...but all you can do from now until the birth is sleep when you can. It just gets more and more uncomfortable.

The only way I could sleep after 7 months was spooning with my husband so that my belly skin was on his back skin. The friction was just enough to hold the pressure off my belly and let me sleep.

The truth is there isnt really a comfortable way to sleep. I liked a body pillow between my knees and then under my belly. Or a giant pillow under one leg while on my side.

Sleeping is really REALLY hard from here on, but you'll figure something out.

Try swimming during the day, it takes the pressure off so that it doesnt get compounded by all the days activities AND all the pain at night.

I feel sorry for you......

My wife also carried big and struggled to sleep during the third trimester and suffered with painful hips. She also tried loadsa pillows etc but nothing helped. She hardly came to bed and often watched telly throughout the night. The best relief she found was to sleep on the sofa with lots of pillows around her - in other words, she didn't lie flat but got propped up.

People say that you have sleepless nights once the baby is born but my wife got more sleep once she gave birth and could get comfortable.

PILLOWS! I put them all around me, between my legs, behind my back, under my belly then work but now I'm getting to the point where I can lay on my back without feeling that way because I did and I still do every now and then, but now when I wake up I'm usually on my back. But use pillows thats the best thing.

I had to get one of those long body pillows and put it between my legs and under my belly. Im a side sleeper and the belly really made my hips ache if I laid on my sides so i put the pillow between my legs to make the leg I wasnt laying on higher and more in alignment.

Join the club,,,, side sleeping is just about the only way to go - with lots of pillows. I slept on the couch some nights, simply because I couldnt get comfortable on the bed.

If I had to do it all over again, I think I's have liked to try one of those jumbo jumbo bean bags to sleep on.

I'm nearly 39 weeks now and the only way I can get any sleep is to sleep downstairs in the armchair propped up with loads of pillows. My hubby sleeps on the sofa to keep me company!!

I laid on my left side and used a ton of pillows. So many, that my hubby had very little space to sleep on and when occasionally end up out on the couch. However you have to get comfortable.
Some women have to sleep kind of sitting up - like either on a couch or a recliner. Whatever you gotta do to get some rest!
