I agree with you. Most of us were not born with a silver spoon in our mouths. Most of us who have gotten ahead in life did not get ahead by winning the lottery or by expecting someone else to take care of us. I got married right out of high school and had 2 kids by the age of 21. I married a guy that my parents did not approve of and unfortuntely they were right. I was divorced at the age of 23 with 2 children. I wanted to lay down at that point and let someone else take over because I was feeling so overwhelmed with the responsibility of raising 2 children and working a full time job on my own. But you know what? After feeling sorry for myself for about 2 weeks I decided this was the bed I made and I needed to deal with it and I did. I will not say it was easy ( IT WAS VERY HARD ) but I did do it with no help from parents or the government. I was way too proud to go to social services for help of any kind. Did my kids have it tough? Sometimes they did but they always had enough to eat, clean clothes to wear and a mother who loved them and they knew it. They are now well adjusted hard working kids who appreciate what it means to earn their way in life. Yes, I could have laid down and let the government take care of things but I would never have wanted my children to think it was OK to be lazy or to think it was someone elses responsibility to take care of them. It was MY responsibility. I love my kids and always wanted what was best for them and I don't understand ANYONE who dosen't want to set an example for their children the way I did for mine. Anyone who says the government should do more to take care of it's citizens to me is just lazy and thinks it's ok to take money from the hard working people to support that laziness. Bull----! Our country is all about having the FREEDOM to not be an idiot and NOTHING can stop you if you want it badly enough. Keep up with the great questions and posts.

How 'bout an honest, relatively un-emotional answer...

In the eyes of liberals, the issue isn't one between hard working citizens and lazy bums. It is one between the elite and the disadvantaged. Those such as Paris Hilton are rich for no other reason than their heritage. Therefore, being rich results in an elite class that literally can live generation-after-generation without being productive. The other concern is greed...those in power are able to use their power to take money that they did not earn...such as corrupt leaders or corporate executives while those who are at the bottom of the corporate ladder have little say in the matter.

Liberals want to ensure that the disadvantaged have an opportunity to prosper as well. Those who pop out three kids in high school aren't going to prosper no matter what. But several people do succeed that would otherwise never have the opportunity.

So...if you are a hard working citizen...realize that if elitists had their way...you would be little more than a peon and they would own everything...go back to 1600's Europe and see if you like it.

Oh...and the Conservatives don't think that you should give everything that you have worked hard for to the lazy...they think that you should give it to the oil executives and military.

Neither side is perfect.

Socialists/liberals get their power by transferring wealth from the producers to the lazy. The lazy, in turn, promise to vote for the liberals. The lazy like early retirement plans, even if it means living in a ghetto, and working under the table so they don't get taxed like the rest of us chumps. Interestingly, there are people who work hard for a living and vote for liberal candidates...apparently they have guilt at amassing wealth, and rather than finding a good charity that would very effectively make sure the money went to those in (temporary) need, they trust the bureaucracy to dole out the long-term (forever) assistance.

Socialist/Liberals want everyone to become dependent on the government (only when they are in power) so that they can complete the Marxist vision of a elite group that knows all and does all for the 'confused masses' who don't know how to live their own lives (ie educating their children) or make correct decisions (ie eating habits).

To do this they must:
1) Take everything from you so you become dependent on them.
2) Take away all hope of ever succeeding by making sure you know they will take all away from you if you do succeed at something.
3) Make you believe that they know best, and just trust that they will always take care of your needs.

No, you were right the first time -- socialist.

Liberals are not socialists. The liberal economic model actually opposes socialist programs. It's just that both liberals and socialists co-exist within the Democratic party. But they are NOT the same. Just like fiscal conservatives and neo-conservatives are not the same.

As to why they think that -- it's because in the Constitution, one of the primary goals for govt is "promoting the general welfare", and Congress is empowered to spend for the "welfare". Social Democrats interpret that as having the govt take care of everybody as a minimum threshold -- food, shelter, medical care, etc.

They see that as one of the primary reasons for having a govt, just like many Republicans see one of the primary reasons for having a govt is to provide for a military. Different priorities as to which is more important.

Note. I disagree with the socialist model, and oppose such govt mandated charity. But the above is why some people other than me support it.

Hon, you clearly have no understanding of what socialism is.

And we ALREADY have socialism in this country right now.

You're just babbling.

Please, I beg of you. Please provide us all with links, articles, references where somebody has said you "must give your" goodies to somebody else.

Say.....do you get this upset about giving millions and millions every year to really RICH corporations?

Yeah, that's what I thought.

Girlie, you've been hoodwinked.

EDIT: God in heaven I am *SO* sick of all these posts about the "horrors" of socialism when not a ONE of them have a CLUE what it is.

“defines social democracy as an ideal form of democracy that can solve the problems found in unregulated capitalism[citation needed]. The SI emphasizes the following principles: First, freedom—not only individual liberties, but also freedom from discrimination and freedom from dependence on either the owners of the means of production or the holders of abusive political power. Second, equality and social justice—not only before the law but also economic and socio-cultural equality as well, and equal opportunities for all including those with physical, mental, or social disabilities. Finally, solidarity—unity and a sense of compassion for the victims of injustice and inequality. “

Lazy facists.. err, I mean conservatives are all liars who promise to reduce taxes, and instead squander our hard earned tax dollars on their pet pork belly projects, then lie and blame good, honest, decent patriotic liberals for their stealing from the poor and middle class to give to the exceedingly wealthy.
