Some scenarios:
1) They would send a massive salvage mission to raise the cup. The crew of the salvage vessel would be the first "quasi" cup champions. Since most of them would not know how to skate, the crew would take turns hoisting the cup while standing at the bow as the boat performs circles around the support ships.
2) The NHL would mandate that teams with water-based nicknames are a bad omen and forbid any such named teams from taking the cup on cruises unless they are aboard ice breakers navigating north of the Arctic Circle. The reasoning being that warm weather cities might not be a good idea after all.
3) James Cameron announces his plans to pen a sequel to his "Titanic" blockbuster. It's working title will be "Titanic 2: How the Sabres Avoided The Worst Of Seasons".
4) Ed Snider decides to stop playing Mr. Nice Guy and secretly purchases a Vietnam War era gun boat. He names it "Schultzie" and plans to get the 3rd Stanley Cup he has waited 30+ years for.

Mike Bolt (the current keeper) wouldn't let it sink... He would hold on to it while he was swimming for dear life. AND, besides that, if Mike Bolt didn't hold on to it while swimming for dear life, and it did sink, it wouldn't be the first time it was at the bottom of a body of water... It's been in Mario Lemieux's swimming pool for one, although salt water is a little different. They would never replace the Cup, it's the oldest trophy in sports and the only one that they pass on year after year and don't remake. They would recover it. BUT, the Fan Cruise is over, the Cup is safe and on it's way to see Samuel Pahlsson, then Teemu Selanne, then Ilya Bryzgalov... and by the way, there is only one Cup, there is no "Travel Cup" there is no duplicate Cup, there is only one Stanley Cup.

There are actually three Cups that exist: the original bowl and two versions. The original bowl purchased by Lord Stanley is currently displayed at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Ontario.
A first version, the Presentation Cup, was created in 1963 by Montreal silversmith Carl Petersen, and is the one currently awarded to the champions of the playoffs and used for promotions.[40] This version was made in secret, and its production was only revealed in 1970 after it had been "kidnapped" and held for ransom. It was returned anonymously.
A second version, called the Second Version, was created in 1993 by Montreal silversmith Louise St. Jacques to be used as a stand-in whenever the Presentation Cup is not available at the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Currently, in order to have one's name inscribed on the Cup, a player must have played at least 41 games for the championship team during the regular season (provided the player remains with the team when they win the Cup) or at least played in one game of the Finals. However, the NHL will also permit other reasons on a case-by-case basis.
The player who has been on the most Stanley Cup championships is Henri "The Pocket Rocket" Richard, of the Montreal Canadiens, with 11. Two other Canadiens players, Jean Béliveau and Yvan Cournoyer, are each on the Cup 10 times.

highly unlikely- but they would probably recover it. we already know from a few people that the cup does not float...
And the current cup is the current official cup - it has the original rings on the barrel, the others are duplicates. the Neck and bowl are not the originals, yes, but the rest is.
The real cup goes out on tour. the original does not, and there is another duplicate which stays in the hall of fame when the current real cup is on tour.
When Eric Staal took it to the boundary waters near thunder bay they had it in a life vest when on the boat though... but it was a much smaller boat.

Well, Then i would Getting My Flippers And Snorkle out.
Oh And No1ducksfan - There have been alot of stanley cups that have had to be replaced, there have been more then 2, i remember hearing a story of a guy who got drunk after his team won, and he threw it in the river and they had to replace it, one of them was destroyed, and there have been other accidents, so if worse came to worse and they did have to replace it, it wouldn't be a problem, it just costs alot of money because they need to get all the belts engraved and everything again.

If they can't get it, yeah, they'll replace it. It's just the travel Cup anyways. The real one that Lord Stanely bought is in a vault with motion sensors at the Hall of Fame.
Trust me, that Cup has seen worse. The '27 Sens dropped it in the Rideau Canal and left it there overnight. Luckily for them, the Canal was still frozen and the coach was able to retrieve it.
989: Was it really in 1905? I could've sworn it was much later than that...

It isn't the real deal but I guess there would be a Stanley Cup in Davey Jones' locker.
It also may be the closest any shark will ever get to the cup. LOL

They'd send Ken Hitchcock down to get it. He has enough air in those lungs to make it down to the bottom and back.
Just tell him there is a 5 course meal attached to the CUP and he'd be down there faster than Shamu.
