My husband has been wanting me to go to see a dr and get my yearly done to check for ovarian cancer our insurance pays 100% of the visit but I just dont feel comfortable w/ drs looking @ me. My first visit was when I was 20 and when I was 22 only b/c I was pregnant If not for that i wouldnt of ever went. And when I had it done both times I was so uncomfortable and was shaking I hated it. What are my chances? Know of anyone who was diagnosed @ 27 years of age?

The most important thing to know about cancer is that if it is caught early, the survival rate is very high.
Not only should you be tested for ovarian cancer but also cervical cancer, breast cancer and any cancer's of the uterus.
Very detectable and curable if found early.
The major reason women dont want to go see their gynaecologist is because they are scared..how scared would you be if you were diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer and the only thing the doctors would be able to do for you is try and keep your pain managed?

A yearly gyn check up does not detect ovarian cancer. It test for abnormalities of the cervix which is totally different. For an ovarian test it's blood work.

One could be diagnosised with any cancer at any age.

Look for a female doctor. That helps alot.

Seeing a doctor for a yearly pap smear is better than seeing a doctor because you have cancer which will kill you!

You think a pap is painful?

I really hope someone that has gone through chemo or had to have a hysterectomy due to ovarian cancer speaks up to you. From what I have been told, you don't know pain until you go through cancer.

You need to stay healthy for your kids, yes many women get ovarian or cervical cancer at that age.

Hon, no one loves going to the gynocologist. It's something you do because it's smart, not because it's fun. There are more reasons for going to the gynocologist than just looking for cervical cancer, although that's a very good reason. You can handle a little bit of discomfort to protect your health. Go to the doctor, put up with five minutes of discomfort, and then treat yourself to a shopping spree or delicious lunch as a reward for being such a responsible, intelligent woman.

technically the chances of you having ovarian cancer are the same whether or not you go to the Dr.

Gynocologists look at all types of vaginas: young, old, diseased ect.

You can look for a female gyno if it makes you feel better.

Ask a friend for a referal.

No woman enjoys going to a gynocologist but we do it because we need to. So for the sake of yourself start going. It is better to catch things early then too late.
