5x - 7x² + x² =

Collecting like terms

5x - 6x² =

x(5 - 6x)

I'm assuming that "7x2" is "7x^2", so all you're doing is still adding like terms. The 5x doesn't match up to any like term, so it stays the same. But the -7x^2 + x^2 does match, so add them and you get -6x^2. Add the 5x and you get a final answer of 5x - 6x^2, or if you wanted to factor it you would get an answer of x(5 - 6x)

Is this x2+5x-14?

If yes, in order to find the roots you do

X^2 +5X-14 =0

X1 = -1
X2 = -4

FORMULA for real roots of this equation

X1= [-5+(5^2+4*14)^ (1/2) ]/2 =

= [-5+3]/2 = -1

X2= [-5-(5^2+4*14)^ (1/2)]/2 =

= [-5-3]/2 = -4

Otherwise
5x - 7x2 + x2 = 5x -6x^2 = x (5-6x)

the roots would be

x1=0
x2=5/6

To factor and simplify:
5x - 7x2 + x2 = 5x -6x^2 = x (5-6x)
