Just curious... It sounds like it's from a nightlight's point of view, and I guess it's plausible, but that seems way too random, even for TMBG.

Someone else said God? What do you think?

I think it's about a nightlight, but here are some TMBG fans' interpretations on a website you'll surely enjoy if you don't know about it yet. http://tmbw.net/wiki/Interpretations:Birdhouse_In_Your_Soul

I think you are right, and it is from the point of view of a nightlight. My favorite part is when he (the light) is musing on his ancestor, the lighthouse, and how he would do a poor job trying to "keep the beaches shipwreck-free."

They have said that kids take their songs very literally, but sometimes their songs are elaborate metaphors, so maybe there is deeper meaning to "Birdhouse." In any case, it's an adorable song.

Where have all the funny bands gone? No way TMBG would go serious with something like religion. I think it is what it is, the random thoughts of the lovable nightlight. Therefore silliness rules the day, like in The Statue Got Me High. I am certain there were no deep meanings there either.

Nothing serious, just a delightful ditty sung by a nightlight.

You did make a little birdhouse in your soul, didn't you?

I love that song, it's one of my favorites. I always thought it's about a light in the shape of a blue canary, but I think sometimes you can't read too much into their songs (like Particle Man in particular).
