oooops. Report it to the police to have it on record. If you don't want your car fixed don't worry about it. What can happen now, if they didn't notice not a problem.

You have several options. You can go into the store and check the security tapes for around the time you were there. For all you know someone hit you. I would venture the guess if you hit someone else you would know. You could call the local police department to see if anyone filed a claim during that time period. Finally you could just let it go. I am pretty sure if you hit someone you would have noticed before you got home.

By going back to the parking lot, you really did all that one reasonably could under the circumstances. Just let it go. These little things happen in parking lots all the time, unfortunately. But do try to learn a lesson from this experience and avoid overly tight parking spaces in future, even if you have to walk a bit farther.

Did you ever think that maybe somebody else hit you in that tight spot? You would have noticed if you tapped another car, trust me. Even if it was very lightly, you would have felt it.
The right thing to do would have been to go back, but it doesn't sound like there's anything you can do about it now that they are gone.

Cars get bruised in parking lots. Unless you did major damage, there's nothing to be done. Scratches happen. That doesn't count as a hit and run.

I suspect you did not hit the other scratched car. You would have felt it if you had. But it was quite nice of you to go back and try to do something about it. I would not deem you a 'hit and run' driver.

Don't worry about it. The other guy probably didn't notice. If it is bothering you, go to the police and tell them what happened. They will probably just tell you that it is O.K. and not to worry unless the other guy files a complaint.
