Which of the reactants is the acid and which is the base in the the following reactions
1. HCI + NaOH ---> NaCL + H20
2. HSO4 + H20 ---> OH + H2SO4

acids: HCl, HSO4, H2SO4
base: NaOH, OH, NaCl
* remember most acids have H in front of them and most bases have OH at the end.

Technically an acid is a proton donor and base is a proton acceptor. So, HCl is a proton donor (makes H+ upon dissociation). NaOH is the proton acceptor, accepts the H+ to make H2O.

In the second case the H2O is the proton donor and therefore the acid!
