Battery acid, as used in automotive applications, is H2SO4 diluted with distilled water in a ratio of 80 / 20%. Concentrated H2SO4 is very caustic and will eat away almost anything except glass and lead. Wet batteries, like car batteries, have many plates that generate a voltage difference that when properly harnessed, can generate enough power to start big diesel boat or truck engines. Most auto batteries are 12 Volt DC batteries, comprized of 6 - two volt cells in series. Most military and some commercial vehicles use 24 volt batteries. A fully charged 12 volt auto battery should measure + 13 to 14.2 DC volts across the terminals. To empty an auto battery of its acid would require the battery to be turned over and drained thru the vented cap holes of each cell. The best place to buy battery acid is from a battery rebuild or rejouvenation center. Do not put your fingers in this acid solution.

Electrolyte, I think they call it. Ask in a NAPA store or Autozone or some other shop that sells batteries.

To get the battery acid out, just pry off the caps on the top of the battery. That is unless you have one that is completely sealed.

it used to be purchased anywhere, sadly, like raja meant, 'why do you want it'.like most things can be used as a weapon,if you have a battery with a problem take it to a mechanic,if it needs acid he will provide it,if it does not then he will sell you a new one.

most auto parts stores sell battery acid, you just have to ask for it (it is kept behind the counter)
