my doctor does but every doctor is different if you want to hear the heartbeat and they don't offer it to you just ask for it. they most likely will not tell you no.

My doctor has checked at every visit EXCEPT the two where I've gotten my ultrasounds (at 19 weeks and 27 weeks.) They didn't at those exams because the ultrasound machine checks the heartbeat, it just doesn't play it out audibly. At both of my ultrasounds, they were able to tell me what my baby's heartrate was.

I believe so. My doctor checked the heartbeat (for both of my pregnancies) EVERY visit with the thing that lets me hear it. Just like peeing in the bloody cup except you enjoy it. :D
I'm sorry about the miscarriages. You must be a strong woman. :} I should think that your doctor will probably be taking every precaution with you to help you and your baby make it as close to full-term as possible. So, you can look forward to the heartbeat. Even if your doctor wasn't going to listen (which I would look down upon b/c you have had so much previous trouble a good doctor should be tellin ya to be very careful and get as close to bed rest as you can without going insane. :D) you could always ask to hear it and they should then do it for you. Get plenty of rest darlin' and take care of yourself. Congratulations!

They do check for the heart beat everytime after your third month. If the doctor notices anything funny or you feel like something isn't right then they might do another ultrasound, but sounds like things are good this time. Relax and try to enjoy it.

Usually around 10 weeks they use the machine that lets you hear the heart beat,. after that they only use a stetescope (speel check) and only the dr or midwife can hear it.
At least that was the case when I was pregnant. I did however bring a tape recoder and I taped it when they used the machine - ask if you can do that and you will always have it.

I've had an ultrasound done at all of my checkups (except for one...but that one they used a dopplar to check for the heartbeat)
I'm not high risk....I don't know why they do it at every one, but I'm not complaining.
I'm sure they'd use the dopplar monitor to find the heartbeat for the check up.
