I have seen all of them, but out of order, in pieces, and several years apart. I was just wondering when each of the movies was written in relation to release date (that is, were 4,5, and 6 written when 4 came out, or were 1, 2, and 3 already written whe 1 came out) Help!

George Lucas' original epic, "The Star Wars" was conceived as three movies. However, once the story was being assembled, it quickly became apparent to him that each of the three movies in the trilogy would, themselves, become three movies each, for a total of nine. He wrote the "middle" one first...which turned into episodes 4,5, and 6.

He then took a whole bunch of time off to be a stay-at-home Dad (and hey, he could afford it!). Then he worked on 1, 2 and 3, which was the original "part one."

Lucas has since said that he will never do episodes 7,8 and 9 because he has "other interests outside of Star Wars." But I bet we'll still see them come out eventually. The total greed of everyone involved will be the overriding factor.

4,5,6 were written first but George had most of the story in his head.
