st. johns wort is supposed to help. but maybe you should try finding something that really excites you about life and start doing it. something that makes you feel good about each new day. exercise is a great way to get those feel good chemicals in your brain moving and may help counterbalance whatever kind of imbalance you are feeling. depression often stems from dwelling on the past too much so watch what your thinking at all times and when you find out what those thoughts are that trigger depression put an end to them. clear your mind and focus on the now rather than the past of the future.

I've been using a combination of herbs and homeopathic medicine for my dysthymia(form of depression). St. John's Wort, Omega 3-6-9, Activated B-6, Folic acid, and Kali Phos.(homeopathic) for the really rough bumps. The St. J's Wort is not sufficiently cutting it for me though and I'm about to try lithium orotate. You can do a search for the litium orotate on the web and see if it's something that peaks your interest.

Dr A Vogel Hypericum Complex,
for more details see this link:
http://avogelinstitute.co.uk/
(please clik on product finder, & then Vogel's remedies, & then scroll down to H..)
it's supposed to be very good but you have to also help yourself, exercise (yoga is ver good, you can get a DVD from amazon & do it everyday, even if it's only 15 minutes),you'll slowly notice a difference)....
also, take a multivitamin, it'll make a lot of difference (7 seas multibionta is a good one)

I think metaphysically depression is caused by not standing up for ourselves & so we need to stand our ground & be strong..

I agree with many of the above answers. Also, I start getting depressed when I have not had enough exercise. Brisk walking in nature is great. I highly recommend yoga for depression.

Yes, there are a number of natural supplements that help a lot of people with their mood and stress. St. John's Wart, SAMe, some B-Vitamins, L-Tryptophan/5-HTP (for relaxation and sleep), GABA, Ashwagandha, L-Theanine, and Valerian (also for sleep) are some of the most popular and most effective mood support, stress relievers, and/or relaxing supplements.

Think happy thoughts.

I have depression too. I took drugs for it, but those drugs made me tired all the time. They might have helped, because I feel fine, and the depression has been in remission for 4 years now.
