Rape and kidnapping are serious offenses that have a lingering effect on victims for a while and it should be treaten as a serious offense.
However I think that 1st and 2nd degree murder should be the most serious offenses in the law . A victim of a murder cannot be brough back. Usually a conviction for 1st and 2nd degree murder means that that killer did not kill due to abuse or provoking circumstances.

My reasoning is the same as yours. The lingering effects of murder are far worse than the lingering effects of rape or kidnapping (and a lot harder to recover from).

There are too many scenarios to consider to definitively answer this. Generally speaking, murder would be worse than rape. But you also have to consider that a rape victim has to bear the emotional scars for life! And if the rape were especially brutal and sadistic, that should be taken into consideration. And date rape is another matter all together. It's never acceptable, but sometimes it can occur because of a misunderstanding, especially when alcohol is involved and judgment is impaired. That doesn't excuse it, and there should still be consequences, but that would not be the same as someone who kidnaps someone, and repeatedly abuses and rapes them. So what's the answer?... It depends on the circumstances. In most cases, while trying not to minimize the seriousness of rape, I would say that murder is worse. But there may be some cases where I might say that a particular heinous rape is just as bad as murder. And just to add another scenario... what about the the molestation of a child?... If someone molested MY child, I might just kill them myself! And that's something I don't NORMALLY think I'm capable of.

Tough question, but I'm gonna have to respond like this...

When the DNA evidence supports the fact that the criminal actually did the raping, then he should stay in jail for a long, long, time...but, not for the rest of his life!

Because of this inequity, children that are molested are also murdered to keep them quiet. I believe this would not happen if the molestation and kidnapping charges were lessened.

Don't get me wrong, I hate those crimes, but it might spare some lives if the perpetrators didn't feel it was so necessary to end the lives of their victims.

Life for a life, if the people of the land say so.
Kidnappers, rapists, regardless of the age- minimum 21years incarceration and life on parole. No early parole.
