Once a child is of the age to ask for the breast feeding this seems perverse and like a sign of mental instability and hanging on by mother. what are your thoughts on the subject?

Not according to the American Academy of Pediactrics:

"Increased duration of breastfeeding confers significant health and developmental benefits for the child and the mother, especially in delaying return of fertility (thereby promoting optimal intervals between births).

There is no upper limit to the duration of breastfeeding and no evidence of psychologic or developmental harm from breastfeeding into the third year of life or longer."

I think that YOU have some kind of perverse issues with your own breasts or you're a troll just looking to stir up some problems.

I agree with maegs (I think that was the name...) Drinking COW MILK is perverse in my eyes. You're an adult, drinking something from a cow's breast. Think about that!

I plan on breastfeeding my son until he wants to quit, but I will encourage him to go until AT LEAST 18 months. It's healthier for the child and the mother that way.

Breastfeeding for longer than a year is not a sign of mental illness. Apart from the fact that you are providing the best possible drink for your child, you are also creating a bond that will help with the child's developing self esteem. Rejection at that young of an age sets the child up to think that there is something wrong with it, even if it is only on a sub-conscious level.

That is rediculous. The whole point for the breast is to feed a child. They weren't put there for a man's visible pleasure or hug bags just in case one is wondering.

people are so damn stupid. if you want to breast feed your child until they are 3 then hey go for it. There will be a time to ween him off and that is not as hard as people think. If you feel unconfortable placing a child to your breast because he is large, then pump and you can still give them those nutrients.

Tell people to grow the **** up and mind their damn business if they have something to say. Also, add a kiss my ***.

Do you live in a vacuum?? Breast feeding is totally normal beyond one year. Most people wean by one year old but some continue for longer...do you read anything????

I was unable to breastfeed my daughter, and don't physically understand how a mom can breastfeed once their child has TEETH (ouch!), but I know kids who breastfed until they were 3, so one year is nothing.

No it isn't a sign of mental illness at one year of age!

this is tremendously close i will say that. i will no longer be able to tell you the form of circumstances I even have heard this nightmarish melodic musical duel strumming via my head. you would be responsive to you have thoroughly lost it once you wash dishes and fold laundry to the beat.

I think you're nuts.

I'm a member of MENSA and my 3 year old is fluently bilingual. He was nursed for 2.5 years. So, unless you consider extremely high intelligence a mental instability, your theory is hogwash.

The WHO, AAP, and a multitude of organizations recommend nursing until at LEAST two.

You know what I think is mental? Inter-species milk consumption for babies.

I'm sure the WHO and AAP would disagree with you. You know, newborns ask for the breast by crying. The 1-year-old just speaks better.
