Powell quit after he realized he had been lied to and he addressed the UN...he had shame....I don't know about Rice...apparently if she was misled, she has learned to live with the lies...you could label her as shameless

I didn't look at the video but the records reflect that they didn't lie about it. The mistake was on the part of the intelligence community who gave the government incorrect intelligence saying there were indeed wmds. The government made decisions based on that information which later turned out to be wrong. But now that we're in it, unfortunately we can't just walk away b/c it's just a mess. If we left now, Iraq would become a breeding ground ripe for terrorists to take over. Essentially the GOOD people of Iraq (there are some) would have to suffer under yet another terrorist and everything would just be back to square one. Some conspiracy theorists tend to think Bush's administration already had their mind made up to enter Iraq and essentially just twisted arms at the CIA for them to produce intelligence that would justify a war. I tend to agree. I know it's not this black and white but it feels as simple as Bush came into office wanting a chance to attack Saddam Hussein and when 9/11 happened, he seized upon the opportunity to somehow lump them together even though Iraq and SH had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11. Think about it - when Bush Sr was in office, a plot to assassinate the president was uncovered and it turned out Hussein was behind it. Now, as a SON....when you got to office, wouldn't you use every bit of power you had to get revenge on someone who tried to kill your father? Bush already made up his mind to attack Iraq and just used the intelligence community to justify his actions. Then when it leaked that there were no wmds, he just blamed the intelligence community.

You can sift through everything that both Rice and Powell said and make a case either way.

We'll have to wait for history to write this one.

The lie would have to be so elaborate and so complicated with so many willing partners, that somebody would have rolled over by now. If for no other reason but to get rich off the book.

In the meantime I don't think rehashing it serves a purpose.

It's water under the bridge.

I don't think they were lying about WMD's in Iraq, just severely misinformed.

However, who knows? It is possible, and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised.

Abby W- Did you read this from the article you posted: "The weapons are thought to be manufactured before 1991 so they would not be proof of an ongoing WMD program in the 1990s."

Neither lied. They both had good reason to believe the intelligence that was given to them by the Clinton administration and the CIA (with a Clinton picked leader).

Actually depends on whether or not the director of the CIA Actually told them
1) all their best information was 5 years out of date.
2) "Our man" Saddam is a liar and may be posturing to hide his military weakness.

And if he did, whether they believed him as this did not meet their world view.

Either way, they were wrong.

That video was like a bad kung fu movie. The lips and words don't match. The question is what did they really say in the video.

You should find reliable sources not "thememoryhole.org"!
