Sure.
"Does this dress make me look fat?"
Later note: Even God condones lying in certain circumstances. Rahab the harlot lied to the Jericho authorities to protect the lives of the Israeli spies. She was commended for this action.

The age old question. If your eight year old child asks if you believe in the easter bunny, do you lie and say yes, thus perpetuating the lie or do you stop the cycle. If you are having serious financial problems and are obviously stressed and your kids ask if everything is ok, do you tell the truth or say that all is well. If your boss asks how you like your job during your evaluation, and you hate it , do you look him/her in the eye and say so or do you lie because you can't afford to lose your job? I don't have the answer because I have been guilty of all the things I have just mentioned and more. I have never lied about anything that got anyone into trouble or what I thought was immoral but we all do it to some degree. Do we do it as long as no one gets hurt? Define what hurts someone. This is probably a philisophical question and I'm getting a headache.

Depends on the motive.
And you may be shocked to see me write that.
If you've ever read "Les Miserables", you'll remember two times when people lied (once a bishop, the other time a nun) in order to save the protagonist, Jean ValJean, from the merciless pursuer, Javert. Javert believed justice and judgment to be above all, but the message of the drama was that mercy was a greater virtue than truth

definite!! Haha :) there have been events the place I felt embarrased for having not considered something. Erm....definite, I as quickly as lied approximately gazing 2001: an area Odyssey too :) I even have considering the fact that considered it regardless of the indisputable fact that. i've got additionally lied approximately Rear Window (have considering the fact that considered it) and Gladiator (considered that too). Haha, this replaced right into a humorous question!! i've got additionally lied in basic terms as quickly as I did not % somebody to flow into long, uninteresting information. So i've got in basic terms pronounced, definite i know what you recommend, i've got considered that too. That close 'em up. BQ: The conflict of the Worlds, 1953 unique. I in basic terms adore the 2005 remake sooo a lot that i don't probably see the element. i'm particular people who like the unique might attempt to 'turn' me, yet why somewhat? BQ2: Ooh the massive debate! To me it somewhat is greater myth, because of the fact I constantly think of of technological information fiction as something related to actual technological information, something that for the duration of concept is plausible. yet in spite of the indisputable fact that i'm prepared to settle for that I do exactly in comparison to megastar Wars and so my opinion isn't that valid besides. BQ3: Kathryn Bigelow and Duncan Jones

Yes. To protect the safety and feelings of others.
If you were a Jew hiding in my attic during WWII and the police came to my door and asked me if I was hiding any Jews I would lie.
If my child asked me whether his drug addicted mother who died of an overdose when he was 3 was a good Mom I would say yes.

Sure it is, and we all do it all the time. No, honey, you don;t look fat in that... Mmmmm, that apple pie sure is good... It is even LEGAL, the politicians passed it into law that they cannot be held accountable for a campaign promise. In essence, they can promise to deliver the moon and intentionally lie about it legally with no consequences. Dubya's daddy said "Read my lips! No new taxes!" And what happened soon thereafter? New taxes!

I think it is okay to tell a small lie in order to protect the feelings of somebody else, if it isn't about anything important.

The answer to this question is not right, but not wrong.. no matter which side you take... there is a very large gray area to this... now there are times that the answer is obvious... such as lying to hurt someone.. but then there are times when it's not so obvious.. such as lying to a child to protect them.. or entertain them (such as the tooth fairy)... are those so bad?

No. One little white lie leaves everything you say and do suspect.
Reality isn't what matters, it's perception. Sad, huh?

Certainly, if your job requires it. Law enforcement agents must often bluff suspects to get them to divulge information. This is authorized by the courts. Example:
Cop: Your buddy says you did it and he's gonna let you take the fall. Are you sure you don't want to tell us what really happened?
Espionage is another situation where deception is required.
