preform magic"

This question has been asked, and all of the answers fit in some way, but none in all. Let me show you what i mean.

Ron speaks parsletounge.

He's already magic, but it doesnt work anyway because it's not in later life.

Neville pulls the sword of Gryffindor out of the Sorting hat.

Neville isnt tallented in magic, but he can do it. Once again, he lives AT LEAST 19 more years, but almost definately more.

Arianna preforms magic.

While she did preform magic later in life, she was already a witch that was scared to preform magic.

Hedwig

I'm not even sure where this theory came from, but Hedwig never preformed magic.

Harry's Wand shooting golden flames

This is not a bad guess, because the wand is broken soon after, but it's not a character, the wand is definately magical, it's already preformed magic, and it is fixed at the end of the book.

See what i'm saying? none of them fit! If you can find one that DOES fit, please tell me right away.

Ok, i'm not going to pick a best answer on this one, because they all say the same (accurate) thing, but thanks for all of your help, and the people who said the theories were bad, i'm with you. They aren't my theories, they've been circulating around.

From JKR's web chat yesterday:

"Snapedinhalf: You promised that someone will do magic late in life in book 7. I’ve now read it three times but cant work out who it might have been! Please help!!

J.K. Rowling: I’m sorry about this, but I changed my mind! My very earliest plan for the story involved somebody managing to get to Hogwarts when they had never done magic before, but I had changed my mind by the time I’d written the third book."

I don't want to sound like a FF7 nut here but I would have to say Cloud Strife, in all honesty. The reasons for this choice I will attempt to show below. 1. You start off life as a typical boy. You have a family. You meet a girl. You are a natural fighter. Etc. 2. You later find out that your modern day life was not at all what you thought it was. It was The Matrix!!! Wouldn't you be happy as hell? I would be. I'm special! 3. You join up with all kinds of amazing super heroes that help you along the way of an amazing quest. You defeat Sephiroth!! What more can I say? 4. You are the man! You have have a huge sword, choice of 3 girls and you have mako flowing through your blood (which makes your eyes look cool). 5. At this point Cloud Strife is immortal because there's no real end to the story. He could live on to be some sort of 200 year old cybernetic mutation for all we know. The choice is clear, Cloud Strife, Final Fantasy 7 [STAMP]

it stinks that she left this out :( My theory tho is that it was originally going to be Filch and he would desperately use magic while trying to defend the castle from Voldemort and the Death Eaters during the battle at the end. All of those other theories are quite bad (sorry) since it was someone using magic for the FIRST TIME. You had to be able to use magic to get into Hogwarts at age 11. So it would have to be either a squibb or a muggle. So as we know there were only really 2 squibb characters and 2 muggle characters who had an even slimmer chance... it had to have been Filch, Ms. Figg, Petunia, or Dudley(who isn't REALLY late in life). Sooo I'm leading twords Filch. Granted we don't know what happened to Harry's Aunt and Cousin after the Ministry had fallen. They were being protected by Aurors so there's a VERY good chance that Voldemort would have found them after the fall of the ministry and them being attacked could have been the extreme circumstance that JK spoke of.

What makes you think Neville isn't talented in magic? He really works hard at spell casting and such in book five, and is intrigal in the magical fight at the Ministry of Magic with his magic. Then he becomes an instructor some 19 years later. You aren't going to be asked to be an instructor in magic if you don't have some skills. True he is the herbology instructor, but Neville seems to have quite good magical skills to me (in the end).

Having said that, I'm with you on the quest for the nonmagical, unless it is the "magic" of Dudley sort of appologizing to Harry?

JK Rowling said in a recent interview she's sorry but she changed that, so there is no character who shows magic late in life

In JK's online interview yesterday, someone asked about that. She said that she decided not to include it in the book. There is a link to the transcript of the interview on Mugglenet.com

She stated in a webchat that she said that when she was writing one of the first few books, and she changed her mind while writing Prisoner of Azkaban.

I was wondering about this too, and I was really wanting to look forward to finding out who it was, but...she crushed my hopes.
