If the Proffesor on Gillagands Island could make a radio out of a coconut, why wasnt he smart enough to fix the boat? PPL tell me "then there'd be no show" but i need a better answer.

The whole premise of the show was that they were stranded. It is logical that they could have fixed the hole in the boat, but also, they did not know where they were, so where would they sail if they did fix the boat?

Just maybe......

The paint on the boat reacted with the salt water and the storm causing the wood in the boat to be too brittle to take a patch. The Skipper got a bargain on it and then the paint was discontinued and recalled, but unfortunately the recall notice was in the mail the day after that three hour tour.

Now the professor could not build a new boat from scratch, because there were no trees that would work as masts on the island and the motor for the Minnow (the original boat) fell off in the storm.

He was working on building a teleportation unit out of mangoes and citrus fruit, but the molecular bonds between the two types of fruit were incompatible.

well duh, it's obvious isn't it. Coconut radios are easy because all of the components can be found on an island. A boat however would need a good fastener that could connect wood to fiberglass. Nails won't hold to fiberglass plus it would leak and there are very few epoxy's that will hold to both wood and fiberglass. Yay for coconut radios, boo for fixed boats

First off, it was "Gilligans" Island, not gillagands. and professor is spelled wrong too.
It was a situation comedy that didn't hold up to close scrutiny, but then it wasn't supposed too. It was just a simple, wholesome, funny program to watch.

i always thought that the boat sank. i guess if it sank, then they had no way to retrieve it from the bottom of the sea.

Because it was a television comedy and not reality.
