Hi,
I would like to know which is the best antivirus s/w that is free and does the job well in the "free AV" league (??).

I have the AVG right now and Norton Antivirus (one that comes with the google pack). What are your opinion on these?
Any help will be appreciated :)

I don't know about AVG . . . I don't like Norton, especially not on older machines. I think you should consider avast! antivirus . . . . the home edition is free and it seems to work well. All you have to do is register it and they'll send you a key. Download the home edition from http://www.avast.com/

Good luck!

Norton does it's job but takes up all the worlds resources to use. AVG is what I use, but I have a friend that swears by NOD32 I have used all of them and like AVG the best. You may also want to check out Avast.

I got rid of norton completely and took www.avast.com It is a real time protection that I have had for a year. It is free. It works better for me than norton crap did. I got 3 viruses with Norton. Avast took them off and I haven't had a problem since. Of course I also have Spybot Search and Destroy along with Spyware Blaster

for home pc's I think the avast free edition software is best . The interface is tacky but otherwise a good software and does the job well . Along with this Norton internet security software will be a good option and these two will suffice I think .

most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser.

you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus. i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar.

firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser.

as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.

besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE. download firefox for free, Just have a try:
