I watched the first episode and HATED it, so I haven't watched since. The actors seem to be acting, which is dumb. It all looks and sounds fake and the fact that night shift is completely separate from GH is stupid. You can't have someone out of jail in one show and on trial for murder in the other because it doesn't make sense. But, in my opinion, the entire night shift show is senseless and they should cancel it already.

Here is the release for those who haven't read it.. It kinda explains things a little.
"Night Shift will develop deeper into the relationships, friendships and medical cases seen at the hospital. Night Shift's stories will be self-contained and wrap up during each one-hour episode. Characters will be selected from General Hospital and will be mostly comprised of younger characters with ties to core families. It has also been stated that Night Shift's story lines will not intersect with General Hospital's. Therefore characters who are on both Night Shift and General Hospital could be in completely different situations on each show."
So pretty much those characters we love and can't get enough of can have a double life and we can watch it on Thursdays!
As far as Jason goes, his being in jail during the day and then out of jail on Thursday night was confusing to me the first time I watched it, but then when I took a minute to realize it was supose to be a different show I got it.
I also read a SPOILER.(don't read if if you don't wanna know about GH) "Jason is exonerated on the murder charges when Ric's dirty dealings come to light. (Carly and Sonny
have a hand in that and Skye comes forward with the flashdrive that Lo was holding over Ric. This would establish a pattern of Ric fabricating evidence in the past.) Jason is released from prison but other charges were added and for them he must do community service (where he will meet up with a new mentor, played by Billy Dee Williams, on GH ;prime time spin-off, Night Shift.)".
There are more spoilers for GH and NS @ http://groups.msn.com/GeneralHospitalHappeningsTwo/test2.msnw

That makes me mad I know it is a different show but if they are going to use the main characters from GH they should at least be having the same things happen to them on both shows. It's not an alternate universe afterall, it just makes no sense and it confusses some people about what really happened to the characters.

You had to be in on the build up of this new show to understand what's happening. Lu's answer has the best explanation to bring you up to date.
Remember, NightShift is only on ONCE A WEEK....Thursday night at 11 PM. It was never meant to be a continuation of the daytime GH show.

this is a soap of it's own and in the first episode Spinnelli shot his self in the foot with Jason's gun and Jason covered for him and took the blame so that Spinnelli wouldn't get in trouble and that is why is is janitoring at General Hospital actually, is because is is doing community service there for his punishment.

It is set in an "alternate universe" from GH. Kind of like a lot of the fan fiction you can read on line.

That is because it is supposed to be independent of GH and the storylines ARE NOT contiguous across the shows.
So I do not feel bad for not watching it. I would rather have seen Port Charles continue...

They are two completly different shows that by chance have the same actors. Its too hard to sync the two shows up. When you watch one, you have to forget about the other
