YES BUT DON'T WAIT FOR THE OUTCOME OF THE CASE CURRENTLY BEING HEARD.
You should write to the Bank NOW as delaying will mean that if the Courts decide to find in favour of the Banks or 'let them off' with a partial repayment, you might lose out.

Upto six years ago was the rule until last month. At present all charges reclaims are on hold while the banks take the matter to the European court.
Im waiting on that verdict as to whether i should claim. I was with A**ey 4 years ago then moved to B*rclays. I will claim off A**ey

You say they are excessive. You can get anything from the bank just because you think their charges are too high. Were the charges incorrect? If so, you should be able to get them back regardless of if you still bank there. I do not know what time limit you have on getting that money back though.

yes i believe you can, but at the moment the office of fair trading is taking the banks to court with a test case so all payments are frozen at most banks.
if they win in theory everyone should get their charges back but well just have to wait.
look on moneysavingexpert for lots of tips on this.
