Do snails count as "fish" when your figuring out how many critters to a tank? I've always thought snails benefit the tank.

I have one apple snail (size of a golf ball) 1 ramshorn (I think, or black mystery snail) and several trumpet snails. I also have one male betta in the tank now....but was thinking of getting 3 female bettas and moving the male betta. The tank is 5 gal. & I don't want to overcrowd anybody....the tank has lots of good hiding places & I keep the water changed properly. Think that setup would work? thanks :)

Snails still eat, respire, and produce wastes, so you should count these toward your bioload.

You might want to split the snails between the two betta tanks - that may be a little much with three bettas and all the snails.

And it's not a stupid question - it's only the ones you DON"T ask!
