How about this for a "novel" idea? Write a book about something that you're interested in. There just might be someone out there that has the same interest, but if you just write to put words on paper because someone else thinks it a "good" idea, you're a hack and not a writer.

Find a good non-fiction story. I particularly would like to bring True Crime stories back. Something on the most shocking of all times, love stories, unique angles..
My bf is currently writing about a man on death row who is not necessarily claiming he's innocent of the crime, but rather that he does not qualify for death sentencing as stipulated by the law. And if what he claims is true, he really did not qualify, and so is appealing his death sentence. Long story, lots of details play a role in this claim.
Good luck

I, too, am writing a book, and I have always heard that you should write what you know. I am writing a series of children/young adult books. Sorry but I'm not going into any details. Good luck!

I write and publish short stories. I'm ready to take the next step to a novel and I've wondered the same thing. Then I decided that in order to write something kick as$ I have to write what I want, something I can immerse myself in and will dominate ME. Something that I'll basically channel and will write itself through me.

I would write about what you know, about your own personal experiences, and if you don't really want to write about your own life, write about something important to you. It's your own life, and your own ideas! Good luck =]
