You probably have a little of both ad-ware and spy-ware. Usually if you have one you have many more. There are a few great ways to get rid of spy-ware and ad-ware and they are all free, just time consuming. I would first suggest running all of these scans in safe mode. Follow these steps:
1. Download Ad-Aware Personal, Spybot Search and Destroy.
2. Install and update both of them.
3. Reboot into safe mode. Press F8 before Windows startup screen appears.
4. Choose Safe Mode Without Networking
6. Run Ad-Aware and Spybot and remove anything that is found.
Safe Mode will keep a lot of the spyware programs from starting up. If the spyware and adware is in memory then Ad-Aware and Spybot can not remove them. I hope this helps.

It sounds as though you have an instance of adware running on your computer. Firstly, I would use a browser such as Mozilla Firefox for browsing the Internet instead of Internet Explorer. Using Firefox helps prevent adware from being installed unexpectedly. You can download Firefox for free at www.firefox.com
To fix the issue you are having, download spybot search and destroy which usually takes care of most malicious adware or malware your computer may have.

most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser.
you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus. i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar.
firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser.
