From a web chat with JKR:
'Luna Lovegood, Harry's airily distracted friend with a love for imaginary animals who joins the fight against Voldemort in the Order of the Phoenix, becomes a famous wizarding naturalist who eventually marries the grandson of Newt Scamander, author of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."'
From the transcript:
"Alicepie : What happend to luna, did she get married who to?
J.K. Rowling: Luna became a very famous wizarding naturalist who discovered and classified many new species of animals (though, alas, she never did find a Crumple-Horned Snorkack and had, finally, to accept that her father might have made that one up).
J.K. Rowling: She ended up marrying (rather later than Harry & co) a fellow naturalist and grandson of the great Newt Scamander (Rolf)!"

Fred. the top. I had tumbled upon a spoiler formerly i began out analyzing and consequently had expected Fred's dying, which replaced into greater effective than looking it blindly, in spite of the indisputable fact that it nevertheless injury. His dying replaced into not mandatory. He replaced into hilarious (my sought after 2d of the twins is while they got here out with a literal bang interior the 5th e book, inflicting the ruckus under Umbridge.) He replaced into playful and hilarious and that i hate to think of approximately it. there have been many deaths that have been pointless: Hedwig, Dobby, Remus, Tonks... yet Fred... Hedwig replaced into an owl, says some. Dobby died what he did ultimate (assisting Harry), says some. Remus died immortalized in his son, says some. Tonks died with a son, immortalized in him as properly, says some. yet Fred replaced into youthful. He had not left his impact everywhere, and he left his literal different 0.5 on my own... it somewhat is too unhappy.

in an interview with jkr ( i think it was on mugglenet) she said that she got married to someone quite as essentric as her (nephew of newt scamander or something), and she later believed that the crumple horned snorckack may not be a real animal, just something her father made up.
