I know we have all heard or been told at some time to "act your age." But what does that really mean? How does a person act a number?

Boy, I hate that phrase. I'm 46 and hopefully don't "act my age" because I don't feel 46 and people who say that probably do feel their age which is very sad. Plus they are also inferring that they are somehow superior because they act more mature. Well they can kiss my ***. (not the most mature response, sorry)

It means to be a conformist, to act in a manner that society says is appropriate for people of a particular age.
