Yes, it's like post apocolypse anarchy. No military to defend a nation, no police department, no upkeep of roads, no prescription drug regulation, no environmental standards, no USDA, etc. etc. There are a lot of good things that would come from no government as well though even though I'm strongly in favor of limited government I realize government is necessary. Not counting the military this level of necessity is about 10% of where we currently are.
IE. The department of agriculture has approximately one person working for it for each farmer in the United States. This is rediculous. If the government wanted to help out the farmers they could fire 90% of these workers and give the money to the farmers or just assign each one of them to a farmer and make them work for the farmer during planting and harvesting seasons instead of doing nothing but living off the taxpayers. (The best idea is to eliminate 95% of them, eliminate subsidies and let the market determine what crops are profitable and therefore planted to be taken to market.)
IRS - Fire 94% of the IRS and adopt a flat tax or 96% of the IRS and adapt a sales tax program.
I could go on forever because that's the size of government and it's problems though a certain percentage of government is necessary.

Spain prior to the Spanish Civil War had essentially a dissolved or non-existent government...
Afghanistan post Soviet War had no central government...
Current day Iraq has a more-or-less powerless government...
Look-up the historical data concerning these countries and time periods for your answer.

No, it would be anarchy. Mobs and gangs would rule without some entity to keep them in check. Look at America's Wild West in it's early days for an indication of what a lack of government causes.

Just think of how it was in the in the beginning. Governments has allowed for humanity to "progress" to this point.
I sometimes think the Amish had it right.

Best story I've read was a book by James P Hogan "Voyage from Yesteryear".
However, to really pull off the no-govt thing we'd need to eliminate scarcity-based economics, and eliminate bigotry-motivated prejudice. One is much easier than the other.
