This is called pica.
In previous pregnancies I loved ice, the smell of aresol cans, the smell of freon and the "new car" smell. Talk about crazy, right?! Well....
With my last pregnancy, I was craving dirt! In fact, I tried some sand that I had just purchased for my children's new sand box, LOL!!!!!!! Just once though :-)
They say that if you have strong cravings like this, your body may lack some sort of nutrient. Just mention it to your doctor at your next appointment and they may do some blood work to see if this is the case.

While I never experienced that during pregnancy it is not an uncommon phenomenon at all. Pica, a condition characterized by the persistent craving for non-nutritive items, is experienced by many women during pregnancy. Typically, the person craves non-food items such as chalk or dirt; the most common cravings reported in women who experience pica during pregnancy are cravings for dirt, clay, and laundry starch (although there are many other fairly common such "pregnancy cravings.")
Pica occurs in ab out 25 or 30 percent of children, and occurs with less frequency than that among pregnant women...but it's not at all abnormal to experience it! There are several theories about why it happens during pregnancy, but the bottom line is nobody knows. You should, however, inform you health care provider. Also note that, among the theories as to why this occurs is the thought that it may reflect a deficiency with some minerals, so your provider may want to review your records or run a blood test to check for anemia again. (It is, however, just one theory among many.)
Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy, and the new baby!

honestly that isn't wierd. report this to your doctor. Most likely your body is wanting some kind of nutrient that you aren't getting. That's why people crave certain foods often. Because their body wants a particular substance. I've heard of people who were potassium deficient craving bananas and mushrooms and the like. Maybe there is something in the dirt your body wants. Don't eat the dirt, just tell your doctor.

Actually when I was younger I used to eat dry dirt, you know like when a wall is old and starts to crack, the dry dust from the cement , any way they say it stems from a lack of vitamins
eventually i stop-ed,people have a lot of different cravings, i can't say there is notting wrong cause i'm not a doctor, some others like a Lot of ice,
congratulations on your young make sure and take good care of yourself

Cravings like this are called Pica, and it is usually due to a lack of iron. Talk to your doctor about supplements that have the proper amount for you to take while pregnant (you can overdose on iron. it's good for you, but not too good for the baby to receive too much, but since you have this craving, it means your body needs iron, so the baby probably does too)

it extremely is referred to as %. and on occasion happens for the duration of being pregnant. it extremely is going to go away as quickly as the toddler is born. I had this whilst i became pregnant with my daughter final 300 and sixty 5 days. What I craved became teeth paste. i wanted to devour it. No lie. thought I had lost my marbles. rfile reported it is amazingly uncomplicated in pregnant women folk to crave unusual issues like that. He informed me that he had yet another affected person who wanted to devour laundry detergent. lol. as long as you do not devour something you mustn't you would be ok.
