Yes! It is normal to gain weight during puberty, especially for girls as we are becoming more womanly-like and we need that type of body to carry a baby. But some girls actually lose weight during puberty from a sudden growth spurt. It depends on your body type. Eat healthy, and exercise daily. If you are gaining weight naturally (not because you sat on the couch all day or because you dont exercise or if you eat junk food) then it is perfectly wonderful and normal! Take care of yourself and dont worry about weight.

In my case, no. I lost about 10+ lbs between the ages of 11 and 13, from 125 lbs down to 113 lbs. I stayed around 115 lbs until I was around 20 years old. I gained weight in my early 20s and went back up to 125 lbs.

Now that I think about it, I probably packed on the weight around 10 years old, right before I got my period. That's when I weighed 125. I started losing the weight right after that. I think that's when I had my final growth spurt and grew to the height I am today.

Yes they do, and I have discussed this with my doctor, their bodies are changing and getting ready for another growth spurt. It is typical to gain some weight with puberty.

Typically, as you grow you get hungrier. If the person does not exercise they will gain weight. Even if they do exercise they should gain weight, it is only healthy.

No, kids gain weight because their parents don't control what they eat, causing them to eat massive amounts of unhealthy foods, which makes them gain weight.

Please don't use their puberty as your excuse for having a chunky monkey. Get out, exercise, play sports, walk at the park, and teach your kids a healthy lifestyle.
