I LOVE the song Freebird. The plane crash was on October 20, 1977 on the way to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines (backup singer), their assistant manager and the pilot and co-pilot died. The other band members were injured, like piano player Billy Powell having his nose nearly ripped off.

It was a good song, but if you lived through that time you'll know that they played it on the radio way too much. I mean, like every hour on the hour they played it from 1975-76.
I got sick of it. Their song "Simple Man" is better.

It is a good song also done very by molly hatchet on there double trouble live album. Listen to it sometime and you won't be disappointed.
