I'm in the west Midlands and a few weeks ago we had flying ants coming in to our sitting room from a vent over the patio. It happened on several successive evenings until I got worried and posted a question on yahoo!
I had put down some powder, but it took a few days to put a halt to their antics.
They are not troubling us now as I reckon I've killed them.
Apparently in S America and in the Kalahari desert people find them a delicious seasonal (rainy) treat!

Yep! flying ant day here in sunny Bedfordshire I've noticed today. Only lasts for a few hours, and that's it,... until next year bless 'em :-)
Most memorable year when this happened was when I watched a toad sitting there on the patio, having the time of his life flicking out his tongue to catch and eat them as they emerged from the joints between the slabs. He must have thought his christmas and birthday had come in one :-)

We used to get this very bad in Sutton Coldfield in the Birmingham area. So bad some years that we had to hose down the outside of the house at the end of the session.

We had them here (Nottingham, England) on Monday. Dozens of them, all of a sudden, coming up from the gaps in the slabs on the patio.

I'm in Norwich and I noticed quite a lot of these wee beasties about today. I wonder why they've suddenly appeared?
