So, I've stage doored in Minnesota before, which can be busy but is still enjoyable. I just wanted to know if it is too much to ask for an autograph and a picture for a show like Color Purple, Legally Blonde, Wicked, Rent, or Phantom.

Make sure you have your own Sharpie! And make sure it is a contrasting color to whatever you want the person to sign.

Be nice...and most importantly...know who the person is! My Broadway performer friends know when people are just handing them a Playbill to sign and don't really know who they are.

Be patient and make room for the next person once you have your autograph/picture.

Many Broadway performers really go out of their way to be nice to the fans, and I think you will find that at most shows. The only difficulty you may have is when there is a really big TV/movie star in a show....security at the stage door can be a little tight, but generally the ensemble will come out first and then the "star" makes their appearance.

Enjoy!

It is very busy, but most of the performers I have met in NY were very kind, patient and appreciative. Some cast members just dart past without stopping, though, so it can be hit or miss, but overall I have been pretty successful procuring autographs and pictures.

There can be quite a wait, though.

BoRhap hit the nail on the head, Give her the best answer, there's not much more to be said. Just head right over when the show's over, have your materials ready (pen & program or autograph book or whatever) and be patient but slightly agressive :-)

Good luck!
