You sound like me. I have danced for 16 years. I am a two time nationals soloist champion. I am usually placed in the back mainly because of my height. Here is the thing. The next time you watch a show or a dance performance see how often you really watch the dancers in the front. I noticed that I pay more attention to the dancers further back. Also, your showmanship does a lot. Put on a big smile and do not forget your vowels. I can promise the back is not as bad as it seems.

Practice! When you learn something new go home and take 10-15 minutes just to go over what you learned that day.
Also, don't feel to bad. When I was younger I was put into the back a few times or off to the sides, it may just be because of size issues. Some teachers like to put the tall kids in the back so they don't block the shorter dancers. BUT sometimes it's the opposite way because sometimes instructers like to put the shorter dancers in the back for visual purposes (it's supposed to make the shorter girls seem taller).

I have been belly dancing for 2 years now. I have learned that practice makes perfect and one on one help with my instructor. When I first started dancing some of the moves felt so weird but with practice everyday I have gotten so much better. Keep practicing!!

If you really like it, myabe you should take a class or something. I'm taking a class and was lucky to have Jessica Lee Goldyn (Val on bradways A Chorus Line) as my teacher. I learned a lot in little time. And also practice makes perfect!

Practice realy helps. Not just practice, but "perfect practice". Practice makes permenent, not perfect, perfect practice makes perfect.
This means to work on the basics so that you do them perfectly every time, by habit. It is not enough to do a move, it has to be done perfectly!
