The available programs vary from state to state. A good place to start looking to find out what's available in your state and area is AARP's site: http://www.aarp.org/families/housing_choices/

Your local Community Action Committee, a government agency, can handle all your needs for you from section 8 housing, utility coverage and a whole gamut of services available to you.

Yeah, the gov't makes it very hard for an older person to get a job.
They have really tough anti-discrimination laws. Almost no one will hire an old person because they know that if they lay you off, you can sue and claim age discrimination. The solution is to never hire an old person. Sorry.

I would check the phone book for a local senior center and they maybe be able to steer you in the right direction. Also you could contact you local human services agency they should have a department on aging that should be able to help you. Good Luck!!

Section 8 department of most cities - call your local county and city and ask if they have a section 8 program and if you can qualify - you can also check around with neighboring communities
