1. multiply by x /x and factor.
2. multiply by abc/abc and simplify.
3. multiply by 3xy^5/3xy^5 and factor

This is all LCD stuff (least common denominator)... All we are doing is multiplying by one, so we don't have to play games with anything within any other parts of the equation/exporession...

What is ((2x-6)+4x) times one? Isn't x/x = 1?

1. simplify the expression:
(2/x-6)+4x

2/x - 6 + 4x =
2 - 6x + 4x^2 =
4x^2 - 6x + 2 =
(4x - 2)(x - 1)

2. simplify the expression:
(c/b)-(c/abc)

(ac^2)/(abc) - c/(abc) =
(ac^2 - c)/(abc) =
(c(ac - 1)/(abc) =
(ac - 1)/(abc)

3. simplify:
(23/3xy)-(1/3xy^5) =
(23y^4)/(3xy^5) - 1/(3xy^5) =
(23y^4 - 1)/(3xy^5)

(2/x-6)+4x
= 2/x -6x/x + 4x^2/x = (2-6x+4x^2)/x

2. (c/b)-(c/abc) = ac^2/abc -c/abc = (ac^2-c)/abc
= c(ac-1)/abc

3. (23/3xy)-(1/3xy^5)
= 23 y^4/3xy^5 - 1/ 3xy^5 = 22/3xy^5

They don't look like you can simplify them do they?

But you can factor out terms, the first is a second degree equation, you can factor it, the third is 23y^4-1 you can factor this (if you must), there isn't much you CAN do with these...
