I am trying to find the name of a movie about a boy in a german work camp in africa w/ his grandfather.1980ish

the movie is about a boy in a camp with his grandfather in africa. The boy creates a chorus out of the different tribes in the area to sing to the german soliders. The Grandfather passes and the boy escapes the camp. Cant remember much about the movie. it came out sometime in the 80's probably.

It is called the power of one and has Morgan Freeman in it where he helps train the young english boy boxing.
