If you were my wife, I would take you to the local hospital and demand they check you over. I would make it firmly clear that you had no other option as your GP has totally ignored both yours and the baby's welfare. He knew he was going on holiday and wouldn't make alternative arrangements. He should have made an appointment for you to see his locum, whilst he's away. He also failed to examine you and that is serious, considering the stage that you are at. Finally, I would put a complaint, in writing to the Regional Health Authority. I am assuming that you and baby are fine, just as he did but I can't tell, only an experienced doctor can do that. Basically, he is a lazy b'stard and shouldn't be practicing if his holiday comes before his patients. For all you know, you could be ready to go into labour at any time and should have been admitted or there could be a potential problem. All I can say, is go to hospital and get checked. And as soon as you have the energy, after baby has been born, get the complaint in. If your GP threatens to strike you and baby off his register, for complaining, let him and then sue him for everything you can get.

you doc probably thinks since this is your 1st baby, you will not go into labor until late in your pregnancy and that it will take hours and hours for you to deliver! That is the same mistake MY doctor made with my 1st baby......but he was wrong and your doc may be too. I would definitely demand to be seen by someone else. They should allow that. It is VERY uncommon for a doc to say see you in 3 weeks when you are 37 weeks along! You need to be checked every week even if it is just for your own piece of mind!! Stress can do lots to a body and your baby.....call the doctor's office and try to schedule an appt for week 38 and 39 just to be on the safe side!

that is very messed up, doctors think they are all high and mighty, is there another doctor you can make an appointment with? I see a midwife this is my second pregnancy my first I had an obstetrician and I really am more happy with the midwife they really are alot more helpful, even if you see someone else to get checked out he can still do the delivery that is even if you last past your due date. I'm 37 weeks too due august 19 but I have a feeling I'll be giving birth in the next few days

WOW!! That doesn't sound right at all!! He def. should have checked you in the office today, and NEVER should have said wait 3wks for an appt. Is there another Dr. in that office that you can make an appt with?? If not, I would suggest switching Dr's I know it's the end of your pregnancy, but WTF....Your supposed to be seen every week for a reason!!!

I don't blame you, that's crazy! Is there no other doctors or nurse practitioners in the office that you can see? My OB was in an office with 4 other doctors and a nurse practitioner. So I had to see all of them. Is your doctor an OB or family practitioner? If he is a family practitioner make an appointment with an OB-Gyn. Or vice versa. Most insurances cover both where you don't need a referral.
Also call the office and don't take their BS! YOU are the customer YOU are paying the bills, even if it is technically via insurance. If you get no where with the front desk help ask to speak to a nurse. Don't take this lying down. Call them and tell them you want a solution!

I would call your doctor and ask that question. Obviously you are having an uncomplicated pregnancy but leaving you with no instructions is bad. He will probably have a doctor on call while he is away (this is why I go to an office with more than 1 doctor) that you will be able to contact. Call your doctor and tell him that you are not comfortable waiting until AFTER your due date to see him again. Who are you supposed to call if you have questions or think you are in labor? Who will deliver the baby at the hospital? They have Dr.'s on call for this type of thing but who will it be? I'd be pissed.

Well I know in my experience: my OB said she didn't what to do anything to aid in my going into labor (by checking me). There are several other doctors in the group and then there is always an OB on call so if you were to go into labor there would someone to take the place. Not to mention very few due dates are dead on. While frustrating, it is perfectly normal. Some docs like to be there for their patients and then there are others whom leave it to an on call college.
Good Luck.

Hmm..I'd be pissed! Your doc just can't up and leave without giving you other options. Usually a doctor going on vacation will atleast set you up appts with another doctor while he's gone. You definitely need to be seen every week like your supposed to. I really don't know what you should do since your so far along. Little late to change doctors now. I guess there's nothing you can do but go to L&D if you need to. Good Luck :~)
