I am going to visit family for about 4 weeks. I have 3 guppies in one tank, & 1 goldfish in a little bowl. I need a feeder, but I was wondering which would work best.

Ditto to most of the above. Don't use the little feeder block that you drop in your tank, they will cause massive problems. If you can't find someone that can feed the fish every 3-4 days for you, use an electric automatic feeder.

I would go with an electronic feeder. this way you can have it set to automatically feed your fish at the same time you normally do and with the same food they already eat. Another good thing to do is put your lights on timers. Since you wont be there to care for them the algae will build up a lot so, set the timers for the lights to be on for 7-8 hours of the day. You can go to home depot or any hardware store for that matter and get a timer for much cheaper than the ones they will sell at a pet store. Here is a link showing the electronic feed i use. It works great and has many different ways to set it so you can have it feed your fish just the same as if you were there. http://www.petsolutions.com/Eheim-3581-Digital-Feeder+I11135010+C17.aspx
hope this helps and have a great trip.

A good electric feeder will do the job, but it's a good idea to train somebody how to care for your fish while you are away, so they can come in once or twice per week and make sure tis all ok. Whatever you do, don't go dropping in those white feeder blocks, they're garbage and can pollute the water, and offer almost nothing for the fish.

Don't use those, get an electric feeder, the vacation feeder tablets dump crap into the water, it won't kill your fish but its not desireable either. You can get a decent feeder for around 10 bucks and the batteries usually last a long time on them.

Evelyn is right. The goldfish should be in at least a 10 gallon tank. I don't know how big your guppy tank is but if it's 10 gallons, you could put him in with them. He would prefer his water cooler than they like it, but he'd be OK with them (set the heater to around 75 degrees). I hope the tank has cycled.

You should get someone to take care of your fish. They'll need at least one water change before you get back. If they just pop in to feed and check the fish and equipment a couple times a week and do a partial water change on the 2nd week, it should be fine.

First of all you need at least a 10 gallon tank for your goldfish, otherwise you will stunt his growth

Don't buy these block feeders, they do more harm then good, because they will definately pollute your tank

If you need to get a vacation feeder, get one that plugs in and not with batteries, do some research on them, because the battery operated ones usually don't work because they get clogged up through the huminity or they dump in all the food at once

Your best bett is getting somebody to feed your fish

Hope that helps
Good luck

you can food tablets from petco or petsmart. there are vacation feeders and weekend feeders. the vacation feeder tablet lasts for a week. if you are going to vacation for a month or two, you will have to get automatic timed feeders. this is avaliable in both petco and petsmart.

Any of them work good. With my experience, at Petco or any pet store they sell those block's (that kind of look like those vitamin blocks for birds) and the bigger they get the longer they last (It says on the box, 1 week, 4 weeks, ......etc) Good Luck!
