Ensure you do not have any screensavers running when defragmenting, also do not use your computer while you are defragmenting.
Please include the error it said on the screen.

Telling more about what it says would help. Could you add more details to your question? But you can try ...
- Turning the screen saver off (set screen saver to None)
- Doing a Scandisk before you do the defrag.
- Running the defrag program (and the Scandisk) ONLY. Don't try to do anything else at the same time.
If you just leave the computer alone to do its thing while Scandisk and defrag run, they'll work better and faster.

There are several ways to solve this problem.
First,Run an anti-virus program.
Secondly,Run an anti Spy Program
Thirdly Run Disk cleanup
Fourthly,Run a program that fixes the registry
Finally Run the error cheaking program.(Go to my Computer, select your current drive *Mostly Drive C* Right click on the drive and select tools.
My basic program that I run is ccleaner at ccleaner.com
Run the clean up and issues tabs and your defrag should work just fine.

Would be helpful if you would edit with the message you are getting. Usually it is a message asking if you want to restart the defrag. If that is it, say yes. That just means that something changed on your hard drive, so it need permission to adjust the defrag to match the new hard drive information.

Try running a disk cleanup before you do the defrag. Sometimes this helps.
Disk Cleanup:
1. Click Start
2. All Programs (or Programs)
3. Accessories
4. System Tools
5. Disk Cleanup
