Well among other things, from what I have seen most WB, and now CW, shows have catered to a certain group, sometimes differing from show to show, but don't seem to work at being multi layered. IE. Unless it is a show aimed at people of Hispanic descent, there probably won't be many, if any, Hispanics on the show.

An in universe reason is because Smallville takes place in Kansas, though allot of times the scenery for the show doesn't exist in Kansas. I personally mostly think of Caucasians as living in Kansas. I am sure there are other races, but stereotypical as it is, I doubt many people can think of any famous Black, Latino, Asian, etc wheat farmers. If you want you could contact the show, and address this fact, though be prepared. Often times when a group pressures a show to include members from their group, the shows clearly become attempts to mollify a demographic, and become less and less about story. That said, having watched much of Smallville over the years, though progressively less, it seems the main group they wish to satisfy is males interested in staring at breasts that talk.
