From what I hear Seagate is the most reliable. I have had Western Digital and Maxtor (which you didn't list) fail on me. While this is just one person's experience, I would at least not use Western Digital or Maxtor.

However, let me say that when they've failed, they were replaced. But I had to pay the shipping and go through quite a bit of trouble.

Generally I like Seagate but not the Maxtor models (from when Seagate purchased Maxtor). I've had 5 Maxtor drives fail on me over the last 4 years (one failed within the first 10 days of use, and two more within the 1 year warranty). The higher end Seagate drives have held up well at work, and I have one at home that is working well for over 2 years. I also have a Samsung SATA drive that is working over 2 years. Haven't tried Hitachi yet. Western Digitals have worked well at work too, but not sure about their home consumer models.

That is not really what you should be looking at....

Look at this guide here and scroll down to hard drives. It explains what all the numbers and performance specs mean and what you should look for.

If you want the best bang for your buck, go for Seagate Barracuda.

Maunfacturers are quite reliable. Go for the performance numbers.
