I don't think that people post all their life details, I think people do what they do on job resume's and lie their arses off.
My business partner met a guy from Match.com. They cohabitated for about a year, and then got married. During that time, he held himself out to be an officer for Homeland Security. It wasn't until my business partner married the guy and asked to get on his health insurance plan that she discovered he hadn't worked for years. She found out that he had been telling his mother that he had cancer, and needed money for the treatments. His mother had been sending him anywhere from $3,000 to $5,000 per month, depleting her retirement. Now, if he put on his profile "scumbag that manipulates his mother out of her life savings"...my business partner would not have contacted him. Anyway, he did go to jail for a few months, and the two are divorcing. This real life story was offered as evidence to my point.

it doesn't hurt to tell things about yourself like your personality but keep it shallow .. lol .. dont be like talking about all your insecurities and fears ect ... just like oh your a cool guy or you like these kind of movies or what not. It is a good idea to use a nickname , pick a state or city you dont live it so that wierd stalkers dont look for you :) .. I have a sight and got concerned like you did .. what i did was put a different state, use and avatar and not my photo , and call myself a nickname that has nothing to do with me like blue panda or something , then you will be fine . your real friends on the site will know who you are but the strangers we call "friends" on there wont know and dont need to know :)
basically not safe to put real name , phone number address, schools you are attending ect.

In this day and age where identity theft seems to become more prevalent and hackers have become more talented, it is not wise to give detailed description about yourself - especially where you live, your job and financial data. Even if you use a pseudonym - a really good hacker can get your real name and even your IP address and trace your address and all the financial transactions you've done over the net. (It's better to be paranoid than sorry)

Not to worry, if Big Brother wants to know about you , they certainly have their means of finding out everything about you in a very short time.
On the other hand, I would refrain from posting alot of personal information including pictures, favorite hangouts, etc. as this makes it easy to track and trace your location, possibly endangering your personal safety..

Not a good idea; too many loonies have access to these sites. I have a friend who posts her and her hubby's vacation schedule; any robber could easily use this info to break into their house.
