the democrats used to be much more centered. socialism was never an issue, except for FDR. europe is now looking for free market solutions to their problems. last year in sweden, the socialist party lost elections for the first time in over 20 years. there were people celebrating on the streets. sarkozy was elected president, perhaps ONLY because his opponent could never explain where she would get the money to do what she wanted. i guess she didn't want to admit that she'd create a quasi-communist state with immense tax increases. in eastern europe you have low taxes comparable to the US, and privatization of health-care institutions because the gov cant pay for them.
why is america being led by people who are more left-of-center than in europe?

Liberals haven't changed. The Democratic party has (overall) changed to stop advocating primarily liberal ideas and is now advocating primarily Socialist ideas.
Liberals oppose socialism, which is why many liberals are leaving the Democratic party.

In Europe, they were hit with reality. People saw the hate and envy of the rich got them more poverty. Being in league with the father of all lies can only bring misery and poverty. Even if people don't know why they are poor, the political party in charge will finally be brought to blame. In the USA We have a strong vibrant economy. - Democrats have to attack without saying what they are for or how they will accomplish the changes. It has worked so far.

Unfortunately, liberals been demoralized and marginalized by misleading and false Republican rhetoric including statement comparing them to communists and socialists.
In Eastern Europe, there's very bad health care, by the way. The have high infant mortality, and short life expectancy compared to the West.

"Why is America being led by people who are more left-of-center than in Europe"
Believe me, that's not true. We have a very large conservative base in America that keeps liberalism watered down. It's a good thing to have balance. Though many people are forgetting what liberal and what conservative is. Many people STILL think Bush is a conservative.
Though, back to the question: democrats are not socialist. You just believe all of the BS from the random forum flies on this site that yell communist at anyone who disagrees with them. Modern liberals are mostly centrist, just like most modern conservatives. Unfortunately, it's the extremists that talk loudest, as we all know, so it just SEEMS like this country is very liberal.
In fact, I believe most of the country is socially liberal and economically conservative.

The liberal politicians of immediately, who're in capacity, are the hippies of the 1960's. they're retread hippies who in no way think of the rustic is a techniques adequate left. type conflict, race baiting and preaching of "equality" for all (particularly money) is their platform and issues are in no way....ever..."equivalent" to them. shall all of us be intense on drugs, living in dirt huts, starting to be our very own nutrition, employing no electrical energy and living in a utopian liberal environmentally friendly society and it nonetheless would not be adequate. working shoulder to shoulder in the rice paddies, quickly somebody might artwork tougher, improve greater rice than yet somebody else and liberals might ***** that it is not "honest". we'd then could desire to unfold the rice around. Liberalism is a incorrect ideology. it works in straight forward terms in the sheltered partitions of academia the place those hippie professors take excitement in Marxism and carry forth the evils of guy or woman success on an analogous time as ignoring the shown historic previous which exhibits capitalism has bigger greater human beings out of poverty than the different gadget ever.

Seldom have I seen such an inane post as this.
The poster asks "why is America being led by people who are more left of center than in Europe".
Let us take a look at the leaders that are leading America.
They are Bush and Cheney and their band of merry facists operating under the guise of far right-wing neo-cons .
These are your leaders who are as conservative as you can get and un-like liberals have no problem whatsoever in waging in Iraq an illegal war of choice based upon a pack of filthy conservative lies that has resuilted in the slaughter of over 400,000 innocent Iraqis.
The second give away that this poster is nothing but a yahoo ignorant American conservative is his ludicrous reference to Sarkozy's opponent wanting to create a "quasi-communist state".
This filthy lie reveals the fact that this libeling idiot equates socialism with communism as one in the same which of course it isn't .
Socialism, originally called Utopianism, is a movement started in the early 1800s by RELIGIOUS GROUPS in western Europe who were horrified at the inhumanity of the industrial revolution.
It was only decades later that Marx incorporated Socialism (which is in essence an ECONOMIC SYSTEM ONLY) into his POLITICAL system called COMMUNISM.
Socialistic states have been the major political force in western Europe for decades and in many other areas of the world .
MOST OF THE WESTERN EUROPEAN DEMOCRACIES ARE STILL EITHER LED BY DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISTS OR HAVE LARGE DEMOCRATIC SOCIALIST OPPOSITION.
The poster of course failed to mention that recently Spain threw out it's conservative government who support Bush and voted in the socialists who dispice Bush.
This poster also forgot to mention that DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISM is sweeping across Central and South America from Brazil to Bolivia to Guatamela etc etc etc. ridding these countries of the elitist Robber Baron capitalists and their far right despots that have brought to much misery and death.
The poster again shows his monumental ignorance and his rabid partisanship by inferring that both eastern European countries and the US cannot afford universal health care and countries that do have relatively high tax rates.
All developed western democracies and many others around the world like Canada and Australia have universal health care and are doing economically very very well.
The poster then makes the statement about universal health care that ""gov cant pay for them"
GOVERNMENT DOES NOT PAY FOR MY UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE .I PAY FOR MY UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE AS DO ALL OTHER CANADIANS .
WE PAY FOR OUR UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE THROUGH TAXES TO THE GOVERNMENT WHO WE DECIDED TO HAVE RUN THE SYSTEM.
Instead of paying an insurance company thopusands in health insurance premiums as Americans do,we pay the government not with premiums but taxes.
If Canadians remove from their total taxes the amount that they pay for their health care, our taxes would be on averqage essentially the same as in the US.
The proof of all this and this posters pure crap is found in the FACT that Americans pay some 15.5% of their GDP on health care while Canadians pay only 9.5% of our GDP on health care ,over 50 % more most of which is profits to the insurance companies/hmoS ETC.
Lastly this slandering poster being the monumental hypocrite he and his ilk are, conveniently forget that the US has a number of HUGE HUGE SOCIALISTIC PROGRAMS including SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE to name only two.
People like this who spew lies and mis-information are as bad as the ebola virus.
It was right here that it became obvious that I was dealing with a person who wasn't "the sharpest knife in the drawer"

If this is true, I think some of it has been the pendulum effect--the more extreme a conservative state we get, the more extreme some liberals become in response to it. The same thing happens if we get too liberal as a country--the conservatives would run another "contract with America" and push things in the other direction.

Europe is going very strong, despite much more citizen oriented politics. The USA is coming to end, with its the rich get richer and the rest fall behind. (92 % of all USA citizens have less to their names, then in 2000, adjusted for inflation)
