He is not conservative enough for them. Also remember that he had taken shots at the "darling" of the neo cons when he first ran for the Presidency in 2000- GWB. They have not forgotten that either.
Be that as it may, bottom line, his views on MOST of what is expoused is to the left of theirs so even though he had tried to morph himself by going to such places as Liberty University to give speeches etc. they are not buying it.

DO you even know what 'neo-con' means? stop overusing big words just because your friends do. A "neo conservative" translated would be a new conservative. ie a formal liberal. Many Neo Cons DO support McCain, traditional conservatives do not care for him.
1. Appearance-wise he doesn't look healthy enough to make it to 09
2. He's less decisive than Kerry
3. It's hard to get excited about him
Also, there is a term coined for liberals who became conservatives but a word isn't needed for the reverse! - I guess that means there's hope for this country yet.

Because Limbaugh does not support him. What Limbaugh says Limbaugh gets. Not one Neo-Con has the "nad's to speak out against him on any issue.

Perhaps because he wasn't a chickenhawk like the others; the man fought in Vietnam and served five-and-a-half years as a prisoner of war. I don't support the man (or any Republican) but he puts all the war-mongering draft dodgers in his party to shame.

I would like to think it is because he is certified sick and really rather pathetic even though he can be very charming and amusing, as on the Daily Show.
I see him as slavering to get to the Oval Office and the big red button that says BOMB THEM.
But in truth, I think the neocons have dirtier things in mind than even he can handle.

Because nobody... conservatives or liberals... could figure out where this guy was coming from on any given day. More reminiscent of Ross Perot than Ronald Reagan.

McCain is too moderate for the extremist conservatives. It seems the Republicans have even attempted to brush him aside. It's too bad because I think he'd make the best president. I guess I should start looking for someone else to vote for.
