There always seems to be a constant grey area. On one hand empowerment might be the Tyra Banks show but on the other hand not be men gawking at swimsuit models. It might be saying that there are no difference other than privates between the sexes, or it might be something else.

Feminism, in its most pure and basic form, simply means believing that women are equal to men and should be treated so. That is it. You are right that there are other ways of viewing it, but most of them are relative. For example, for someone who is right wing and traditional, something will seem feministic to them that is not to someone who is left wing and liberal. What may seem as ultra-feminism to a male chauvnist will often not be feminism at all. It is a matter of perception and motivation. The question that is important is this: for what purpose are you using the term? That ultimately dictates how it is used, but not necessarily what it really means.

It is hard to stay well versed on what other peoples and groups of peoples stances are, especially in social forum. I decided just to find out what i believe and leave it at that. I have never really like spending a lot of time trying to understand other peoples beliefs. It is not import to understand someone in order to love or like or hate them.

Odd question. Is it empowering to look at woman in bikinis? Read a book by Martha Burke, Billie jean king, or Gloria Steinem.
