It's kind of scary sometimes because he hit himself one time with a ruler on the head during our company meeting when my boss made a bad remark on his project

It sounds like this person has self esteem issues or something. I don't know what kind of relationship you have with this guy but a little honest encouragement wouldn't hurt. Maybe he just needs a friend. I've known a few people like that and it is difficult to get close to them enough to establish a sense of trust due to the walls they have built up around themselves but it might be worth the effort. You need to be careful though because they may very well latch on to you like a stray puppy and then you'll really be in trouble. If the company you work for has a counselor on staff you might mention this situation to them and start the ball rolling. It could be that this person just needs to know that he is appreciated. I have seen this neurotic behavior before. I would not worry about this person as he is just odd. I work with a person that is always talking to himself. Every meeting he makes quips for his entertainment about the speaker. He is very bright but I do not socialize with him because I find his behavior odd.
I am sure there are things about you & I others may find strange too. Don't get hung up on him. He probably finds the rest of his co-workers odd.
Reality is nothing more than a fantasized perception.

That's sad. I hope he's seeing a counselor. I don't know what disorder he could possibly have, but I seriously wonder if he has self-esteem issues.
